Summary
ELM MicroGrid played a pivotal role in delivering a 1.75 MW / 8.4 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Little Orleans, Maryland, as part of a collaborative project with Convergent Energy and Power and Potomac Edison. This advanced BESS is designed to enhance grid reliability for over 600 Potomac Edison customers in a rural area prone to severe weather-related outages.
The system offers up to five hours of backup power, reducing outage durations and ensuring consistent service during emergencies. Leveraging predictive weather forecasts, Potomac Edison can strategically reserve the battery during high-risk periods, optimizing performance and reliability.
As a core component of Maryland’s Energy Storage Pilot Program, the project exemplifies innovative non-wires alternatives (NWAs) that replace traditional infrastructure upgrades. ELM MicroGrid’s advanced BESS technology showcases our commitment to empowering utilities with cutting-edge, sustainable energy storage solutions tailored to meet evolving energy demands.
